DFID Professional Development Week

On the 22nd September 2014 Mowoza contributed towards a DFID professional development workshop that was hosted by DFID in Maputo. With one hundred technical advisors gathered in a single venue, it was the perfect opportunity to discuss informal cross-border trade. We invited thirty informal cross-border traders from the Assotsi Association in Mozambique to participate in the discussion. The informal cross-border traders eagerly shared their stories. One informal cross-border trader proudly explained how she went from being a street vendor, selling samosas, to importing products and supplying other small businesses in her community. Every informal cross-border trader presented stories that highlighted determination, overcoming challenges and a willingness to learn from their peers.

We are looking forward to the future, knowing that informal cross-border traders will eagerly adopt skills and technology to improve their livelihoods and that of their communities.
